Dear loyal readers, welcome back to the SWIndia trip blog! Today we said goodbye to Wayanad and traveled south to Mysore for the last leg of our journey. We began our day at Wayanad Wild, our hotel in the Western Ghat mountains. Some of us woke up early to participate in one last birdwatching hike, which was a great way to begin the day! After the hike, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast which included poori, mango juice, and other traditional Indian foods. Afterwards, it was time to say goodbye to Wayanad Wild! We all had a great time there and we’ll miss the natural beauty as well as the friendly staff.

During our drive to Mysore, we drove through Bandipur National Park, where we saw many interesting wildlife like elephants, spotted deer, and baby monkeys. We also stopped by a diner during the ride, where we enjoyed south Indian foods like uttapam and dosa. A lot of people said that this was their favorite meal of the trip!

When we arrived in Mysore, we stopped by some artisan workshops to watch local artists make traditional handiworks. Many of these talented artists practice artforms that have been passed down through generations of their families. At the first workshop, we watched artists carving sculptures out of stone, and the other two workshops were dedicated to creating intricate wood inlays. All of the work was so interesting to watch and we definitely have a greater appreciation for the work that these artists do!

After the tour, we checked into our hotel and relaxed before heading to a nearby shopping mall for some shopping and eating! We enjoyed some Taco Bell and other American fast food and shopped at some Indian stores. We finished the night by relaxing and hanging out at our hotel! Tomorrow we’ll be exploring Mysore and visiting historical sites throughout the city, so be sure to stay tuned!

Sincerely,

Sanjana (and the rest of SWIndia!)
